In my beard
So I know a guy who knows a guy, who wants to mod my Xbox. Now in case you don't know what Modding is, apparently from what I understand is that it allows you to use games on your XBox that are essentially copies and rips of original games.

In a nutshell, I pay $40 dollars to get the Xbox modded, from there, I only have to pay $10 per game I want and the guy will hook me up. Because he copies Xbox games and sells them for cheap by modding peoples Xboxes to allow them to play the copied games. Also, if my Xbox should have any problems, he does repairs.

However, if Microsoft catches you with a modded Xbox (I.E, through Xboxlive) then they shut down your system entirely to where you can't even play normal games.

Basically, I'm considering this for two main reasons.

1) I don't use Xboxlive, at all. I hate the fact that the current generation of gamers cream themselves over online play and do nothing else, solely basing their ratings of a game based on how it plays online. So I wouldn't even touch Xboxlive and thus Microsoft would never know I had a modded system.

and 2) I don't believe in paying $60+ dollars for games that only entertain me for six hours and poof, the campaign is over and I never play the game again. So $10 per game, any game no matter how new it is, gives me the best deal on the market, legal or otherwise.

However, I still have my reservations. After all, it's not exactly legal, and I don't know how comfortable I am participating in these kinds of things. Also, once I mod an Xbox I can't go back. I can only play modded games so even though it's a steal for ten bucks, I am forever future dependent on this guy for all my gaming needs in order to get me a copy of a new game coming out. It's not that big of a hassle, but say the guy gets busted, moves to another area, or otherwise just stops modding games, I'm stuck with an Xbox that's not compatible with real merchandise.

So TL;DR, here's the recap.

Considering modding my Xbox.
Cost would be $40 for the procedure, and from that point on, $10 per game.
Can no longer access Xboxlive (I don't anyway) unless I risk getting caught.
Cannot call Microsoft for returns or support as they will discover the mod.
Dependent on the dealer to get all future games. But for dirt cheap.
Not sure if I can get downloadable content with safety and compatibility.
He would handle all issues with the Xbox.
My Xbox is out of warranty so I would have to buy a new one if it crapped out anyway.

If you have any additional information or advice, let me know. I don't want to jump into a decision I'm going to regret later.

It depends how often you play your Xbox and buy new games I'd say, if you ae forever buying new games already when they cost $60 did you say then it is worth it because even after buying 4 copied games that you would buy any way you have saved $200, which might be enough for an Xbox (not sure with the different currencies). As you don't play Xbox live I would say it's a good idea because there is little to no chance of being caught out and if the guy goes you could have saved enough for a new Xbox. In the end it is your decision. Also, are you positive this guy isn't a scammer? If not then it's a tough decision.

^This.

I know a ton of people who modded their xbox's to get burnt games and whatnot. They get caught playing them on XBL and their account/ip was disabled/frozen for good.

I have a modded Xbox. Fuckin awesome. You don't need to worry about only relying on one source for games, you can still play regular games and buring them yourself is hella easy. All you need is a spindle of dual layered DVDs and a semi decent computer and of course a burner that burns the DVR-DLs. I spent literally 70 bucks for a proper burner and 15 discs and had 300 bux worth of games in less than 2 weeks.

Plus I've had mine modded since November and haven't been banned, but I wasn't stupid enough to play during the ban wave of December when all these idiots were playing MW 2 weeks before it came out or were playing custom versions. Dummies. I really only play like Madden, SDVR 10 or NBA 2K10 or Gears. I think online gaming is just like text messaging in a sense that it is contributing to the deterioration of human face to face communication. What's better than having buddies over at the crib for some beers and pizza and rounds of whatever game and to talk that smack face to face? Certainly not playing with them from across town or playing with random stranger X.

Either way it's a great deal if you don't fear losing XBL, which in a sense I kind of do mainly since I get that awesome instant Netflix thing, but gamewise I'd live and if you learn to burn your own games, it's a helluva detup, not as good as a modded Wii, but awesome in it's own right.

I want to turn my dead Xbox into a George Foreman grill so I can at least still get some use out of it.

Ive had both my kids Xbox modded.

My eldest has xbl and has her's modded for about a year and no probs as Enzo said. she dont play games that have not come out before they hit the shops. or during the ban wave.

And my son has had his modded even longer but does not go on XBL.

Saying that i do have mates that have had there account banned/Frozen, But that was only on xbl. So i guess it's luck of the draw were XBL is concerned.

But if you not using XBL then i shouldnt see a prob.

Personally i have a ps3 which IMO is better :p.
