The door opened slowly, creaking with every inch it moves as if it hadn’t been polished, oiled or even subjected to maintenance for at least several years. Dust billowed up from the molded carpets, reflected off the meager sunlight that was able to escape through the moth eaten drapes that haphazardly clung to the dust stained windows of what was obviously a low rent, highly dangerous and most likely uninspected roach motel. Then again when you’re pulled off the road from an obscure exit on I-65 into a dirt road resort away from most of civilization, you’ve got to expect some liberties to be taken with your lodging on the road.
From the sunlight that cascaded into the living quarters stepped three not so well known individuals. Two rookie competitors accompanied by a manager whose eyes shown with bright expectations for her clients. She seemed perfectly at home in the unlighted, musty ramshackle abode as she took a fearless seat onto an aged khaki and brown sequined couch that caused even more allergenic dust to rise up and scatter itself throughout the room. She looked reassuringly in the direction of her two companions as they sneezed dropping their luggage next to the closet to the mid-left, not daring to open it.
â€Razzle Dazzle†Katie King:
Welcome home boys. Well, at least you’re home for a week anyway.
Katie looked from side to side, admiring what she must of thought was a massive improvement from the last place they chose to stay. But we won’t get into details of that situation, don’t want to scare the children now. Andrei Evans however, was not quite as used to these kind of places. An allstar football all American, he was more inclined to living in at least comfortable and clean high rise hotels in the big city. With a disgusted look he turns towards Katie with pleading eyes as if hoping against hope that this was all just a big joke.
Andrei “Crossfire†Evans:
You aint serious are you girl? Why we gotta live, eat and breathe in roach motels on the way to Birmingham?
â€Razzle Dazzle†Katie King:
Glad you asked Andrei. You see as you experienced last week, being in the ring isn’t an easy task. You guys took some bumps in there, and I know you’re not entirely used to the squared circle. You’ve got to be careful though, because this week you get the Hayes Brothers mano y mano. They’re gonna fight dirty, so you’re gonna need to live dirty in order to be aware of your surroundings at all times in order to avoid making a big mistake and having roach guts on your shoe.
She laughed at her own dark humor as Evans shoulders slumped down in a disappointed lurch. Rubbing his eyes to clear his vision before he batted away a rather large looking fly buzzing around his ear, he sighed before sliding himself into a creaky wooden chair that he was thankful to at least have a damaged seat cushion placed before hand.
Andrei “Crossfire†Evans:
I think your logic is twisted and yo’ mind aint screwed in right.
James “K-9†Carpenter::
Relaaax A-C. Things aint gonna be so bad here. We’ll just tough it out, do our best, and beat those Hayes Brothers. After that? We go out for some of that Alabama cornbread, chicken fried steak & sweet potatoes over by Fifes. Anyway, I aint afraid of no-CRIMENY MORE ROACHES! Ayeeeee!
James Carpenter had been rifling through the cabinets looking for food. When he suddenly opened the kitchen drawers where silver wear was expected to be furnished. Instead he got a big surprise in the form of a mound of cockroaches that spread out and hid as best as they could away from the light while K-9’s shocked reaction caused the drawer to fall. Being made of flimsy wood and rusted metal it split apart leaving splinters and roaches scattering across the kitchen floor as he ran back into the living room area, leaping across the iron coffee table and landing to the right of the couch where Katie was seated.
Andrei “Crossfire†Evans:
What was that about not being afraid of roaches bro?
â€Razzle Dazzle†Katie King:
Alright guys listen up! It’s go time. The Hayes Brothers are no laughing matter. They’ve got not only experience as a well oiled tag team, but they also are seasoned singles competitors. So whether you’re fighting them one on one or in a team situation, you’re gonna be in trouble. Experience is gonna be a huge factor here boys, they know the ring better than you do, but I’ve got some tips to help you survive.
Katie King had stood up suddenly and with purpose and determination from her seated position after her first proclamation. She paced the room as Carpenter inched his way from the side of the couch, patting himself down and sitting on the couch in her place. Andrei was attentive despite being distracted by more flies and cobwebs hanging overhead, but Razzy D was resolute in her drive to shape these two city boys up in preparation for the match of their lives.
James “K-9†Carpenter::
I want Shawn Hayes. He seems like the more dangerous of the two. From what I’ve seen from the tapes Gabriel has more to offer in his arsenal, but Shawn’s far more inclined to use the dirty tricks to get himself ahead. I’m gonna go out there and take him out as fast as I can. Hell I wouldn’t mind getting a shot at singles action against the guy. He may be a douchebag, but he’s a talented douchebag, and that’s the more dangerous kind of douchebag.
Carpenter was using animated hand gestures to appeal to Katie his case that he should get a decent crack at Shawn Hayes. He brought his fist forcefully into his palm with every mentioning of the word “douchebagâ€, possibly trying to dramatize his wish to get him one on one in an effort to get the others inspired in his cause.
â€Razzle Dazzle†Katie King:
I see your MMA fighting spirit is coming out for this one. That’s good, you’re going to need every bit of sixth sense you can muster to keep yourself alive in that ring. I’m not going to lie to you guys, you’re still very untested. I am proud that you got the victory, but you got it over a couple of unexperienced and overconfident curtain jerkers. While the Hayes Brothers have both experience, confidence and talent. Your best bet for this one is to make quick tags, stay fresh, stay focused, and for the love of God do NOT allow them to isolate one of you in their corner. It’s basic bad guy strategy, and if you let yourself get caught in it expect one of you to be virtually out of this contest for the rest of the night.
Katie King waived her hands to and fro, as if trying to help them visualize the dangers that they were in for. Balling up her fist and raising it into the air only to bring it back down to her chest sharing in the triumph of their victory last week and yet imploring with her voice that they take this very seriously. The last thing that Razzy needed was for her signature team to be on the losing end of their first televised tag team bout.
Andrei “Crossfire†Evans:
Can’t I just bust ‘em in the mouth and shut their faces in once and for all? I’m getting’ tired already of every week these two coming out and sayin’ they gonna steam roll us like we some shock jocks off the street or somethin’.
â€Razzle Dazzle†Katie King:
Sure you can, if you want to lose. LOOK, I’m a competitor too. I understand that you guys are eager and able to get in there and scrap with Shawn and Gabriel. But that’s not the point. This is tag team wrestling. It’s human chess at it’s human chess at it’s finest. You make one wrong move, and it’s checkmate. Your opponents may be cocky, annoying assholes. But they’re different from a David Baptie or Josh Jones. They don’t talk trash and have nothing to show for it. They’ve earned the right to call themselves the best, and they can back up every bit of words they spew, no matter how much it pisses you off to hear it. Now are you guys gonna work as a team and get us up to 2 and 0 or are you going to let your emotions get the best of you and choke on live television?
Andrei Evans was able to share his rebuttals respectfully, but at the insinuation that they may not be prepared to take on the Hayes Brothers and thereby lose reputation struck a nerve with Crossfire. With that he stood to his feet, swatting another fly on the way in a motion as if he was slamming a football against the field in celebration of a touchdown. He stared into the green eyes of King matching with his brilliant blue, declaring that he would not allow this to be an easy fight for the Hayes Brothers.
Andrei “Crossfire†Evans:
Hell nah. This is our first official debut match for Monday Night Mayhem ya dig? We aint screwing this chance up. If it’s one thing I know, it’s that when the green light is on you, it’s do or die you know what I’m sayin’? The Hayes Brothers got a lot of rep to lose, but so do we. We gotta prove that we serious about this opportunity, and they gotta prove that they still got what it takes to be champions. I’m ready to Rock N’ Roll!
James Carpenter shared in the enthusiasm, also rising from his couch to give Andrei Evans a congratulatory high five for his inspiring speech. He too made his own declarations for this battle. After all, fighting was in his bone marrow, and K-9 was ready and willing to show the Hayes Brothers that it’s a dog eat dog world out there, and it’s about to get rough.
James “K-9†Carpenter::
And if it’s one thing that I know, it’s fighting. I’ve been in a lot of real tough battles in my life, but nothing gives me butteflies more than knowing that in just a few days, we’re gonna be in front of possibly twenty thousand strong, and if we lose this chance, it’s back to Dark Match hell for us. So as for the Hayes Brothers? As much respect as I can have for those guys with what they’ve accomplished in this business, this is the NEW IWF, and Triple A is going to be the beacon that shines saying that it’s a new era. It’s time for a changing of the guard, and we’re going to make sure it happens.
And so, K-9, Crossfire & Razzle Dazzle all submitted their hands into a triangular agreement. Andrei leading the charge counting the one, two, three before they swung their arms into the air shouting “Triple A!â€. If it’s a war you want, it’s a war you are about to get, because these two teams are looking to steal the show in a big big way.
