The Prospect of the IWF

The scene opens up with Carl Long walking down the sidewalk. It is a warm day in Tampa, Florida. You can see the camera moving up and down as the camera man is following Long. Long stops and turns around to the camera man. The camera turns to the spot that they’re at. It’s a café, with tables on the outside. Many people are seen talking on the phone, talking to the person seated across to them, or just enjoying their coffee. The camera focuses back on Long as he talks into his microphone.

Carl Long:
I’m standing here in this beautiful Tampa, Florida day, where IWF’s newest talent lives. I have been searching for him for half a hour, and it was rumored that he’d be at this café.

Long looks to his left, and the camera follows his eyes to fix itself on Joseph Harrington, just leaving the café with his cup of coffee in his hand. He goes to sit down at an empty table, as he pull his phone out and seems to be texting on it. Long runs up to him, followed by the camera. Long stops in front of the table as Joseph Harrington, who in wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and sunglasses. There is a black duffle bag right next to him. Joseph stops texting and glances at Long. Joseph looks back at his phone and continues to text. Long looks back at the camera and shrugs. Joseph puts his phone in his pocket and jumps to his feet.

Joseph Harrington:
My man! Carl Long!

He sticks his arm out and shakes Carl Long’s arm. Harrington looks to be in a happy mood as Long speaks into his microphone.

Carl Long:
“The Prospect” Joseph Harrington. I heard a lot of good things about you…

Harrington interrupts Long.

Joseph Harrington:
Sorry for interrupting you, but would you like a seat?

Harrington offers the seat that Long is standing behind. Long nods his head and begins to pull the chair out.

Carl Long:
Alright.

Long pulls the chair out and sits down. He gets comfortable as he holds his microphone to his mouth and begins to talk.

Carl Long:
Joseph you will be making your in ring debut at IWF’s Monday Night Mayhem against the returning Logan Matthews. Mr. Vino really wants you to prove yourself in this one. Your thoughts on your match?

Harrington takes a drink of his coffee and sets it down. It looks down and starts to shake his head.

Joseph Harrington:
I read his bio, and I’m very upset. He had a feel good story; A guy who was born with nothing, worked extremely hard and now has his chance. It shows that under pressure, and in the face of fame, you see everyone’s true colors. This doesn’t seem appropriate and I would like you to do a favor.

Long looks confused as he talks into his microphone.

Carl Long:
Okay… what?

Harrington finishes his coffee and sets it down.

Joseph Harrington:
I want you to follow me, I got a little rally to go to.

Long nods his head and the camera shuts off. The camera turns on and it shows Long walking behind Harrington in a parking lot. He walks in a school, followed by Long and the camera. He walks down a hallway and enters a door, following swiftly behind is Long and the camera. Harrington walks up steps and ends up on a stage. He is in the auditorium. There is a huge crowd in front of him as they explode once he walks on the stage. He has a microphone in his mouth and screams to the top of his lungs.

Joseph Harrington:
THE PROSPECT IS HERE!!!!!

The crowd roars with cheers as Harrington smiles.

Joseph Harrington:
I’m not alone, welcome to the first time ever, IWF’s Carl Long!!!

Harrington invites Long to walk on stage and he does to huge cheers from the crowd. He waves to them and takes a bow as he walks off. Harrington begins to talk.

Joseph Harrington:
All those guys who said I couldn’t do it. Said that Joseph Harrington will never make it, that I would fail miserably… Well guess what… I’m standing right here!

The fans start cheering as Harrington smiles. He continues to talk.

Joseph Harrington:
I proved all of them wrong! And now Joseph Harrington is IWF!!!

The fans start an “IWF” chant.

Joseph Harrington:
And how poetic it must be that my opponent is Logan Matthews. This man has a feel good story as he was born with nothing. This man fought and clawed his way to the top and found himself in the IWF. Once there, you saw his true colors. This man fought for himself in every way and didn’t give a damn about all of the people who really run this show… You fans…

The fans explode in cheers as Harrington points to them. Harrington continues to talk.

Joseph Harrington:
The Prospect of IWF is here! I will not fall to you Logan Mathews. I am going to show all of these people who believe with a passion that I can’t do it. We are very similar Mathews, except you do it for yourself… I do it for these people!

The fans chant Harrington as Joseph waves bye to the crowd and leaves. He passes by Carl Long and the camera as they follow him outside into the parking lot. Joseph stops and turns around to Carl Long.

Joseph Harrington:
You still want my answer to the Logan Mathews question?

Carl Long looks at the camera and back to Harrington.

Carl Long:
Yes…

Harrington looks down with a smile and answers.

Joseph Harrington:
I was born for this kind of sport. Wrestling has been my life. Everyone wants me to win, but doesn’t think I would. Those 1,000 fans in there support me… And that is all I need. I promise you this Long, if Logan wins, than he would have deserved it, but I expect to win. Mathews has it all, but one thing. Understanding of what he is and what he came from. My story is similar to Mathews, but I never forgot who I am. I am a fighter. I guarentee you, I will give it my all. After Monday Night, all roads lead straight up.

Harrington shakes the hand of Long and turns to his car and walks towards it as the camera fades to darkness.

*The scene opens with Logan Matthews standing next to a black, 2010 Lexus IS in front of what appears to be a high-rise apartment building. He's wearing a black suit, perfectly tailored to his body. The top couple of buttons are undone, showing a gold chain sitting on his tanned chest. His hair is messier than usual and there is some noticeable stubble is growing around his perfectly trimmed goatee. His gold rimmed aviator sunglasses reflect the sun slightly towards the camera in a shine only matched by the hook of the car and his leather loafers.*

Matthews: Hello boys and girls, that's right, it's me, the "Hardcore Superstar," you're favorite wrestler, pro wrestling's one and only Messiah, Logan Matthews. I know I've been gone for a long time but make no mistake babies, I am back to take IWF by storm. I'm sure all of you have seen the video that came out of my official IWF return last week in Anchorage, and if you haven't, where have you been? It was the biggest return in pro wrestling history! The fans in the crowd, well the smart ones at least, fell to their knees and gave thanks to the skies above because they knew, in that moment, that their Savior, the Wrestling God had returned to save them. I suppose I should just let the video do the talking...

*The video cuts to footage shot at the IWF live event in Anchorage, Alaska. There is a pan of the crowd before a cut of a Marquis Leblanc being taken to the back after suffering his injury. Roughly ten seconds after Leblanc makes it behind the curtain the lights go out. The crowd starts to cheer, not knowing what, or who, is coming next. The cheers grow louder as green and blue lights start flashing on the entry way. The excitement reaches a fever pitch when the first few strings of "House of the Rising Sun" starts to play over the PA and Logan Matthews steps out from behind the curtain wearing his ring gear, holding a microphone. He stops midway down the ramp to bask in the cheers of his adoring audience. He finally makes his way into the ring and raises the microphone to speak but has to pause amid chants of "Welcome Back." He's finally able to calm the crowd so he can speak.*

Matthews: Damn! Does it feel good to be back!

*This met with more cheers from the audience.*

Matthews: Now, before you get all excited about seeing the New Nature Boy in action tonight, I have bad news for you. Thanks to the weather, the IWF didn't know if I would make it in tonight on my private jet so they took me off the card.

*The first negative reaction for Matthews comes with this announcement but it's not clear if it's because he couldn't wrestle or that he was obviously flaunting his wealth.*

Matthews: No, no, it's not their fault. They didn't know if one of their stars would make it in and they did what they could to keep you, the fans, from feeling ripped off. Unfortunately, the star they had to replace is the biggest name in the wrestling business today and you were all robbed of seeing him wrestle here tonight. But enough about the latest in a long line of IWF's management mishandling the biggest star this business has seen in 20 years, I'm here for one purpose and that is to become IWF World Champion!

*The crowd starts to cheer as the video fades out and back to Matthews standing next to his Lexus, but now he has his typical smirk on his face.*

Matthews: Did you see that Joey? Sure, you can get 1000 people to show up a "rally" but I had 20,000 people eating out of the palm of my hand. That's what it's like every time I step foot in an arena. I'd say that you probably paid those people to show up but everyone knows where the money is in IWF. The difference between us is that people PAY to see me Joey. I know you think that I disrespect the fans and I...Well I have to agree. It's not the fans that got me signed in the IWF, it's not the fans that got me where I am today, it was ME. I told those fans back in Alaska what I've been telling everyone since I came to IWF, it is my destiny to hold the IWF World Title. I've paid my dues, I've done everything I had to do to get where I am today and I owe nothing to no one. Joey, I know you're making your IWF debut this Monday night but I know that you're going to face a VERY determined Logan Matthews. This is one of the most important matches of my career. I have something to prove, I'm going to show you, the fans, and management who the true superstar is in IWF. Then, come Fallout, I will show the World that my spot in IWF is in the main event with twenty pounds of gold around my waist and I dare anyone to try and stop me.

*Matthews smiles broadly as the scene goes to black.*
