BJPenn.com is saddened to learn about the passing of MMA coach, Shawn Tompkins. Tompkins, 37, was found dead this morning in Canada, as reports indicate he didn’t wake up from his sleep. Mike Straka was the first to report the news via Twitter. Few details are available at the current time, but we will update the story as it develops.
As a trainer at big facilities like Xtreme Couture, and the TapOut Training Center, Tompkins served as the trainer to many top fighters in the sport today, including names like Vitor Belfort, Mark Hominick, Wanderlei Silva, and Sam Stout (Tompkins was married to Stouts sister, Emilie Stout). He also worked as the coach for the Los Angeles Anacondas in the now defunct IFL.
