UFC 129 is still two months away, but it has already obliterated North American records for ticket sales and gate. The promotion confirmed that Toronto's Rogers Centre was reconfigured from 42,000 to meet extra demand, yet fans snapped up tickets in record numbers. The final tally was 55,000 seats sold.

The old record for paid attendance was just set in December 2010, when 23,152 filled Montreal's Bell Centre.

In addition, a UFC spokesperson confirmed that the gate will surpass $10 million, making it MMA's first-ever eight-figure gate. The old record was $5.4 million for UFC 66 in Las Vegas.

The all-time combat sports gate record is held by the Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather boxing match in 2007, which generated nearly $19 million in ticket sales.

The event will be highlighted by a welterweight championship match between title-holder Georges St. Pierre and challenger Jake Shields.
