On injury at Full Gear 2023

“In the Jay White match – I beat him on one leg by the way no big deal – I hit an elbow drop from the top rope to the floor because I was trying to impress people that I thought cared about me, later on I found out they didn’t. My hip popped out of socket and because I thought those people cared about me I fought through it for, I think, another 20 minutes.”

“(White) hit me with a uranage off the top rope and I landed directly on my left shoulder and my labrum just snapped entirely in half.”

“It was the most pain I’ve ever been in my entire life and then somebody tells me you need to do a press conference and I go ‘Oh, I love the wrestling fans, I’ll do a press conference and I’ll fight through these tears. And once again wrestling fans showed me they don’t care about me, they made memes about it, they thought it was funny. Hands down the most pain I’ve ever been in and nobody cared.”

On working CMLL

“I love lucha libre. I remember not too long ago I discussed that I would love for AEW to have a show in Aztec Stadium. But the reason I want to go there and the reason I love going there is because the competitors there are so weak. It’s a very easy payday and the food’s delicious.”

MJF is one tough son of a bitch, though. Wild they already had one hurt man in the top storyline and then the other man is hurt in a PPV match so they had to have him drop the belt immediately the following month in an angle that didn’t make the most sense, but because they had to. Shame how badly injuries fucked with Tony’s booking.

Tony's biggest weakness has always been adapting. But yeah the narrative online that the MJF vs Cole story was always shit and always bad is false. People loved that story and I still love it up until the Cole injury. Now the Full Gear 2023 angle is still my most hated AEW main event because the way they had Jay lose was so bad. Him losing is fine but yeah the way they did it I think hurt Jay waaaaay more than if he just lost normally without the injury angle.
