The bout will serve as Phan's second stint in the Octagon, his first being the controversial split decision against Leonard Garcia at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale in December. Nearly every single fan and writer scored the contest in favor of Phan by a wide margin, yet the judges proved to be incompetent with Tony Weeks and Adalaide Byrd awarding Garcia the victory. Luckily, Phan still earned himself a 'Fight of the Night' bonus for the performance.
Phan was originally scheduled to fight Garcia in a rematch at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, but Phan was forced from the card due to a broken foot. Brown has also been sidelined by injury in the form of a broken hand that he sustained against Rani Yahya at UFC Fight for the Troops II in January. Hopefully, both fighters can stay injury free as this should be an intriguing battle. Conventional wisdom suggests Brown wins with brute strength and takedowns, but Phan could surprise with his striking ability.
