Miesha Tate vs. Rin Nakai in the works for UFC Fight Night 52 in Japan
UFC women’s bantamweight contender Miesha Tate (14-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will likely welcome Rin Nakai (16-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) to the UFC.
The potential UFC Fight Night 52 matchup was first reported on Wednesday’s new edition of “UFC Tonight,†and MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed the promotion was targeting the contest.
An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.
UFC Fight Night 52 takes place Sept. 20 at Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan. Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson are expected to meet in the main event. Broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
Tate fought most recently in April, earning a much-needed decision win over Liz Carmouche. While she remains one of the most popular figures in the UFC, Tate had struggled in her first two UFC fights, coming up short against Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano.
Meanwhile, Nakai is a 27-year-old Japanese fighter who’s currently placed No. 10 in MMARising.com’s latests unified women’s rankings. She fought most recently in May, earning a unanimous-decision win over Strikeforce and Invicta FC veteran Sarah D’Alelio.
