So in this year's edition of the draft we saw the mid-card titles switch places for the first time since the brand division.
This got me wondering, was it just for the fuck of it... or was it to bring some credability to the belts?
Although the U.S. Title is supposed to be at the same point on the card as the IC belt it really has never seemed so...in my mind anyway. Perhaps bringing it to the A-Show was simply their way of helping it gain a little more exposure and making it available for some bigger names to hold.
By the same train of thought I think bringing the IC title over to Smackdown is more of a way to enhance some of the younger less established talent over on Friday nights. They seemed to be on a mission to bring more excitement to the title over the past few months, having fairly big names hold it....CM Punk, JBL and now Mysterio. Perhaps they're hoping that a "prestigious" belt will help some of the younger talent get over.
The women's titles also switched up brands. I'm thinking that their logic on this one was hoping that if someone like Beth Pheonix or maybe even Mickie James holds the Diva's Title it will bring some credability to a belt that's only switched hands once between completely unestablished female wrestlers.

Thoughts guys?

I actually think that on a day by day booking, the US belt is higher than the IC Championship. Sure, Shelton's reign brought it down, but with Benoit and MVP, it was way higher than the IC belt

^Without a doubt...those you mentioned did worlds for that title. However both mid-card belts have been lacking for some time right now. The IC title has the slight advantage though since it's got the history and "prestige" around it.

Lets face it, neither belt has meant anything for a while now. It just means that whoever has it can lose in non-title matches and not look too bad. They used to have some brilliant feuds and matches over the IC belt (Benoit/Jericho at Royal Rumble 2001 anybody?), but since I started watching WWE again about a year ago its pretty clear they don't matter.

I've always liked both titles. I'd love to see them both back to meaning more, hopefully they can do that. Right now, I'd say the IC is more valuable. Punk, JBL, Mysterio, Jericho, and some others have held it lately, while the US has been mostly carried by Shelton Benjamin, no offense to him.
I'm guessing this was just for the hell of it. The switch of belts wasn't for anything storyline related I don't think, I think it was because they wanted MVP on Raw, and wanted Rey on SD, and they just happened to have the belts that needed to go with them.

Are you serious? Punk's reign sucked, shit matches, and shit title defences. He defended it against what 2 guys? JBL held the belt for 2 weeks, and lost it in a matter of seconds at WWE's biggest ppv's in his 1st defense. Mysterio just got the title, and to my knowledge, hasn't even defended it yet. Jericho had the title what a year ago? Seems now when your the IC champ, you can't make it past the 2nd guy you defend it against. Shelton went through countless guys and held the title for months. So he was a good champ on that aspect.

^^^I must say that what you mentioned in the IC History, as of late, really brings the credibility and prestige of the IC Title down. However, there's nothing about Shelton's reign that pushes it upwards, either. Nothing against Shelton, I like the guy.

I think this could've been a subtle chance to put the US Title on the A-Show. I've never really noticed it, however I've never thought about it til now. The US title has always seemed to have less meaning, right back until Benoit held the US Title. I think, it being on the A-Show now, will mean whomever holds it will have the potential to make it seem like the higher of the titles.

It's not going to be a sure thing though, the creative team needs to put the time and effort into it. They have MVP, who can deliver a solid fued/match with the title, as they do with Mysterio. I just think that, subconsciously, the fans will see the US title now as the major of the two titles.

ive always liked both titles even tho neither have had much meaning in a few years. ive always considered the ic title above the us title just because its been on raw. now i consider them about even because they are both being held by legit champs and the us title gets a small boost with it being on raw now.
