I remember watching this match. It was the most heartstoping moment when Mick was thrown from atop that cage! I'll Admit, I like Foley's Style of wrestling.. Hardcore Foley. I miss him wrestling. Why doesnt he anymore? Somehow I missed the reasoning... :(

Mick Foley doesn't wrestle anymore cuz he's old and his body is broken down super hard. He was playing the general manager for Raw this past year but got kayfabe "fired" recently so he could have hip surgery.

As someone else already mentioned. Foley got old and his very self destructive style of wrestling caught up with him. He cannot put on his own socks and shoes anymore for example if I remember a interview right. He also has problems with his memory and other brain related trauma due to shots to the head.

Somehow I missed that interview. But I can honestly say I believe that.

Foley actually had planned on retiring early into the Attitude Era due to his injuries. However, Vince kept on calling him back for title shots and Foley kept on giving in and coming back. I recall him saying the Rumble match with the Rock was going to be his last and then he not only wreslted more, he had an equally brutal match with HHH the following year. But yeah, if he had retired when he had planned on it, I believe he would have stopped wrestling in 1997 or 1998.

Well, I was prop 4 or 5 when I got a pic with him. I remember standing on the counter getting a pic. We knew him personally for like 4-6 yrs. He was a great guy. My Dad actually wrestled with him for a few yrs. I remember being in a Basketball Gym warehouse and His gimmick was when he wore that leather mask and He was comming up to the bleacher's with a Chainsaw trying to scare everyone. I remember It scared me so much I cried. Lol.

Funny thing was, I stopped watching wrestling for the first and only time in my life only a couple months before this match. I had watched it religiously between 1986 and 1998. But I got a lot disillusioned with the Attitude Era in WWE.. too much focus on story and less on matches. I was pissed off at WCW for the way they botched the Sting vs Hogan feud and the way that Hogan and Bischoff kept disrespecting Ric Flair... and the concentration on hardcore matches. I like occasional stipulation matches, but mostly I like rules and even though I like cheating, I prefer it to be illegal :) So I actually hadn't seen or even heard about this match until 2003, when I began renting old Royal Rumble tapes with my friend and I got drawn back into wrestling.

But even though I hadn't seen it live when it happened, it was STILL one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. I got to give it to Foley... the man put a lot on the line for his craft. I don't think he just did it for the money... I have always felt he is a true wrestling fan. And hell, I wouldn't do this no matter what you pay me.

I dnt hv hv cable so I cant watch wwe normally like everyone else can. So Im missing alot on whats going on. Like Who's still wrestling? Who's retired in the last 5-6 yrs? Who all these new ppl are I've never heard of?.... Etc. I can only rent the dvds as they are available from my library. I may catch one or two episodes on youtube... Im still a Huge Wrestling Fan. Yeahn I hv gotten bored from time to time watching some of the newer guys. I miss Seeing The Rock, Batista, Kane, The Old Tripple H, Sandman, Hornswoggle, all them. :( I am glad the Hardy Boyz are back. Maybe they'll help spice some things up again.

I remember watching the King of the Ring '98 match, with my grandfather, mom, and little brother. I was 12, and the moment he fell off the cell, was a life changer for me. See, my mom knew I cussed (as well as 12 year old could), but, I didn't dare say any of those words in front of her, because she was mom. But, that night, was the first night that I cussed in front of her and the ONLY time my grandfather ever heard me. When my little brother tells the story, he loves to throw in how he was seven and heard me, mom, and granddad all say, "SHIT!" at the same time.

Foley had better matches then this, glorified squash match but when I saw it as a teen I was in shock. He has always been a great storyteller and has got you to care for him when he battles. A lot of wrestlers today are more athletic and are better wrestlers but lack the craft of storytelling, matches have no meaning just a bunch of moves.
