MFC champ Sam Alvey meets Tom Watson at UFC Fight Night 47 in Maine

A middleweight matchup has been added to the UFC’s summer debut in Maine.

Sam Alvey (22-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will make his official UFC debut against Tom Watson (16-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 47 in August. UFC officials announced the new booking on Monday.

UFC Fight Night 47 takes place Aug. 16 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. The event’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1. Tickets for the event go on sale Friday to the general public, but can be purchased Wednesday by UFC Fight Club members and Thursday by UFC e-newsletter subscribers.

Alvey was a cast member on Season 16 of “The Ultimate Fighter,†and was the first overall pick by coach Shane Carwin. Alvey got into the house by way of a 47-second knockout. But in his first fight inside the house, he was upset by Joey Rivera by majority decision, ending his “TUF†hopes.

But since the end of that season, Alvey has gone 3-1 with three straight wins under the MFC banner in Canada, including knockouts of Jay Silva, Jason South and Wes Swofford. His victory over South earned him MFC’s middleweight title, and he defended the belt against Swofford a little more than a month ago.

Watson returns in bad need of a win after back-to-back decision losses. “Kong†was a highly regarded UFC signee in 2012, but he dropped his promotional debut by split deception to Brad Tavares. He rebounded with a knockout win over Stanislav Nedkov in his native England. But this past August, he dropped a unanimous decision to Thales Leites in Brazil, and in February he lost a split call to Nick Catone at UFC 169.

With the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night 47 card now includes:

Tim Boetsch vs. Brad Tavares
Shawn Jordan vs. Jack May
Sam Alvey vs. Tom Watson
