Chris Barnett and Smealinho Rama were to headline Friday's Maxium Fighting Championship (MFC) 37 for the vacant heavyweight title, but both have been removed. Barnett failed to gain medical clearance and no replacement could be found.

Barnett's eyes have three holes in the retina, meaning one shot could make him blind.

"With proper notice we could have found a suitable replacement and had the title fight, but because of irresponsible management, Rama and the MFC fans have been robbed of that opportunity," said Mark Pavelich, MFC president.

Mickey Dubberly, Barnett's manager, blames MFC for not getting the medical paperwork to them until the last minute.

Pavelich confirmed Rama would still receive his show purse and be placed into a title fight at the next show.

Bantamweights Ryan Benoit vs. Anthony Birchak is the new main event. MFC 37 is May 10 from the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. The main card airs on AXS TV.

Shitty deal, I hope things get better for Chris' sake.
