DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -A meth lab exploded inside a Daytona Beach hotel room Friday morning, resulting in two law enforcement officers being treated for contamination, police said.
The explosion occurred about 7:15 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Bermuda House Hotel at 2560 N. Atlantic Ave.
According to Daytona Beach police, Sgts. Greg Burns and Steve Ynick were conducting an investigation and about to enter the room when the explosion occurred. Glass sliding doors were shattered in the explosion, police said. A woman inside the room was detained, but a man fled the area, said police, who added that chemicals and debris were thrown onto the pool deck after the explosion.
Burns and Ynick were being treated after coming into contact with hazardous materials, police said.
A chemical dispersal unit will clean the contaminated areas.
