Matt Hobar vs. Aaron Phillips added to UFC Fight Night 49 lineup
Aaron Phillips (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is dropping from featherweight to bantamweight for a UFC Fight Night 49 matchup with Matt Hobar (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC).
UFC officials recently announced the bout.
UFC Fight Night 49 takes place Aug. 23 at Tulsa, Okla.’s BOK Center. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
It’s not clear where Hobar vs. Phillips will be placed on the lineup.
Phillips recently posted a 5-0 mark to earn a UFC contract. However, the 24-year-old then suffered a decision loss to Sam Sicilia in May. The 24-year-old Louisianan trains with the likes of UFC veteran Tim Credeur and posted three first-round knockout stoppages in his five pre-UFC bouts.
He now takes on Hobar, who also recently made an unsuccessful UFC debut. After winning three straight fights with Legacy FC, the 27-year-old Texan met Pedro Munhoz at the TUF Brazil 3 Finale in May and suffered a TKO loss.
This is likely a must-win fight for both fighters.
The latest UFC Fight Night 49 lineup includes:
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Benson Henderson
Timothy Elliott vs. Wilson Reis
Thiago Alves vs. Jordan Mein
Tom Niinimaki vs. Chas Skelly
Mirsad Bektic vs. Ernest Chavez
Matt Hobar vs. Aaron Phillips
