In a WWE Universe blog on Jeff Hardy's WWE exit, Matt Hardy thanks his departing brother for "breaking his back for the sake of our business day in and day out." He adds that even Internet fans who dislike Jeff Hardy should appreciate how he got CM Punk over this summer, while he asks Jeff Hardy fans to thank the "Charismatic Enigma" for his unselfish entertainment.

Matt partially attributes Jeff Hardy's departure to nagging neck and back injuries ("He needs time away to heal physically and mentally"), before putting over the likelihood of Jeff making a return down the road.

Yeah, that CM Punk guy was a NO ONE till he ran into Jeff Hardy....:SniperHeadShot2:

He does has a point, CM Punk was nowhere near being a credible main eventer until his feud with Jeff Hardy

^I half agree. Punk was no where near a credible main event HEEL before the feud with Jeff. He was a credible main event face, and had been for a while. But he wasn't a credible main event heel. The feud with Jeff, from bits that I've seen, helped him to now be probably the top heel on SD.

Punk as a face didn't work for me, Punk as a heel is extremely entertaining and I don't think he would've become a credible heel without Jeff. So I agree with Matt here.

Punk's was a credible main eventer, but as a heel, he is way more entertaining and to be put in the feud with Jeff, only better he's heel status and made him a more legitimate heel main eventer. I agree with Matt too.

CM Punk was NOT a main eventer until his feud with Jeff Hardy. His 2008 run with the belt was a total joke, he couldn't do anything right, he couldn't even lose it properly. After that he got demoted to mid card that's if he was ever considered main event before that. He went and screwed Hardy over in June and then slowly become main event. So this is pretty accurate, he was not a main event star before his feud with Hardy.

just cuz he became a main eventer after his feud against jeff doesnt mean jeff put him over himself. jeff did pretty much nothing except have matches with him in which cm punk sort of carried and made special (with the exception of the insane spots)

edit-

I think he's got a point. With the exception of Cena there is only one guy in WWE with the unconditional love of the kids and most fans, and that's Jeff. They both did a great job in the feud and Punk was nowhere near main event calibur until this feud. Since then he's been catapulted directly into a feud with the Undertaker..just about as big as it gets.

Punk was a no-one until he faced Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerreo in 2001. Matt = Fails.

Yeah, because I am sure that a match he wrestled in 2001 while being in the indies has that much to do with being a main eventer in the big leagues eight years later.

Please go die

lol at Punk fan boys gettting worked up over what Matt said, which was the truth btw.
Agreed.

Face it, Punk was a joke until his feud with Hardy. JBL even made it undoubtedly apparent. His world title "reign" was an absolute piece of shit and he was made to look like a bitch. It was on par with and possibly worse than the infamous Rey Mysterio world championship reign. Although Matt should have clarified that he made CM Punk seem credible. Regardless, I don't even see why 'internet fans' dislike Hardy. He says the same shit RVD use to say, and it kinda fits Jeff's character to just scream random crap and act like he's on drugs/high. =p

This is fucking hilarious. Punk got Punk over because Punk was great on the mic, great at getting people to hate him, and great in the ring. All Jeff did was be Jeff. If you replace Punk in this feud, it won't be half as good, but if you replace Jeff with say, Mysterio or Morrison, I don't think it would make much of a difference other than lesser kids cheering.

Saying Rey Mysterio or John Morrison would have done the same is a joke. Sure, saying Jeff Hardy single handedly put CM Punk over is a fucking joke, as CM Punk's work has been great and his mic work and demeanor have also been crucial in him getting over, but lets get real, with the level of overness Jeff Hardy has, CM Punk could have just slapped Jeff Hardy week in and week out and become the most hated heel.

Besides, Punk has gotten over under the "straightedge" premise, and that feud dinamic would have only worked with Jeff Hardy

Like I said, I think it affected his credibility the most if anything. He won the TLC match fucking CLEAN against supposedly the master of TLC. That was like Batista beating Triple H clean in Hell in a Cell. Then the cage match on Raw, aside from the eye gouge at the end. And lol at Morrison and Mysterio.. think CMS explained it best. Hardy being as over as he is and taking all his (Punk's) shit is what did it. Fuck Morrison and Mysterio, they aren't 1/2 as over as Jeff, you're Blue. Btw, the most funniest lol moment of this feud I think and was perfect was after Jeff's goodbye Punk comes in and bashes him with the belt. SO MANY boo's, you didn't see it coming, I was loling so hard.
