Martin Lawrence Files for Divorce
Martin Lawrence filed divorce papers seeking joint custody of his two daughters with wife Shamicka and requesting that their assets be divided under the terms of a prenuptial agreement.
The Big Momma's House star cites the usual "irreconcilable differences" in his petition filed April 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Lawrence, 47, and Shamicka were married for less than two years but had been together for another 15 years and have daughters ages 9 and 11.
The date of separation was listed as April 24, the day before the pair announced their split.
"Out of love and respect for one another we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together," they said in a joint statement released by his rep.
Lawrence has hired powerhouse Beverly Hills divorce attorney Lance Spiegel, who has represented Michael Jackson, Heather Locklear, Charlie Sheen and Russell Simmons, among others.
