UFC president Dana White announced that the upcoming Martin Kampmann-Jake Ellenberger fight at The Ultimate Fighter: Live Finale will be a No. 1 contender match. The bout takes place June 1 from Las Vegas.
"The welterweight division is stacked and Jake Ellenberger and Martin Kampmann are going to fight for the chance to earn a title shot," said White, in a press release. "They will headline the season finale of TUF: Live on FX to crown the next Ultimate Fighter. There's a lot at stake for the guys competing on this card at the Palms."
Kampmann and Ellenberger will have a while before the winner can cash in his shot at the belt, as Georges St-Pierre hopes to return to action later this year to unify the title with Carlos Condit. Currently, the two share interim status atop the UFC's welterweight division.
Not really surprising this was turned into a contenders match, that was the general feeling anyways. Wish Condit would just fight whomever wins this fight right away, rather than waiting for GSP. Condit vs Jake/Martin and the winner of that getting to fight GSP would work out better.
