The West Australian features an interview with Mark Henry on WrestleMania at this link. Henry noted that he intends to leave the business within the next 18 months, but has "a good three years left in me" in regard to performing in the ring. He also noted that there isn't a lot of friendship behind the scenes among wrestlers as much as animosity and that when he leaves, he hopes someone will take his role of trying to step in smooth down incidents on the road when they happen.

1996. That was the year Mark Henry joined WWE. So if he lasts another 18 months that means that he would have been in WWE for 17 years which is an incredible amount of time. He has never really been a maineventer except for sporadic appearances in title feuds when there was no-one else left. His best run was when he was in ECW, he was fantastic as ECW champion and drew in the fans as ratings were quite high when he was champion. He is now simply a midcarder who can fill a spot anywhere on the card and I can't see WWE dropping him until he wants to go since he has been with them for so long and if they have kept him this long they will keep him for 18 more months. It is good that he is actually planning retirement and isn't going to wrestle on forever.

Thoughts on Mark Henry? Your favourite Henry moment?

I've been on both sides of the Mark Henry bandwagons, there would be times where I ponder why he is still employed and there will be times when I get that answer. He is a good role player and has been for a long time, his time on ECW with Tony Atlas was the peak of his career and was a solid run. He's been poised to be at mainevents before, but freak injuries always seemed to get in the way.

He started quite slow in his career--as big men often do--but over the last couple of years, he show SOLID improvement. Hence, he persuaded me to jump on the bandwagon--on which I still reside. I no longer accept, or take seriously, any arguments that suggest that he is a bad wrestler, that is simply nonsense.

I don't know at this moment what precisely, my favorite moment would be. On a general note though, whenever he goes into the ring and flashes a big smile is typically very radiant. I mean that not in a sense that I find him cute or anything--but the big lug just smiles and you can't help but smile back. He is a lot more charismatic than some people would have you believe.

As for retiring within the next 18 months, well that probably can't hurt. Big men typically break down faster than your average man and usually walk out of the industry crippled. So if he wants to avoid that to ensure that he can still walk 5-10 years from now and have some modicum of decent health, then all the more power to him.
