Marcus Brimage vs. Russell Doane slated for UFC 175 in Las Vegas
Marcus Brimage (6-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will drop from featherweight to bantamweight to meet Russell Doane (13-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 175.
Brimage’s management team announced the fight following an initial report from Sherdog.com. UFC officials haven’t formally announced the bout.
UFC 175 takes place July 5 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Brimage vs. Doane likely will be part of the prelims.
Brimage, who appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter 14,†won his first three fights after he appeared on the reality show, topping the likes of Maximo Blanco and Jimy Hettes. However, he then suffered a 67-second TKO loss to Conor McGregor in April 2013. The 29-year-old hasn’t fought since then. Soon after the loss, he told MMAjunkie he had suffered an Achilles tendon injury and would be sidelined until 2014.
Doane, meanwhile, made a successful UFC debut in January, when the Hawaiian earned a submission victory over Leandro Issa. The 27-year-old, who previously competed for the PXC and Tachi Palace Fights promotions, has now won four of his past five fights. All of the victories have come via stoppage.
