HARTFORD, CT. (AP) -
A Connecticut man charged with killing three teenagers in the 1980s is set to be sentenced for murdering one of the victims, whose boyfriend served 20 years in prison before being exonerated.
Fifty-three-year-old Pedro Miranda is expected to be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by a Hartford Superior Court judge onFriday for the 1988 killing of Carmen Lopez of Hartford, who was 17 and pregnant at the time.
Miranda was convicted of murder by a jury in April and awaits trial in the other two killings. He denies all the allegations.
Lopez's boyfriend, Miguel Roman, served 20 years of a 60-year prison sentence for her death before being freed in 2008 based on new DNA evidence. Miranda's lawyer says Roman may speak at Friday's sentencing.
