"On Sunday December 17, 2012, two days after the Newtown, Connecticut shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio, Texas to kill his ex-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming."

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. She pulled out her gun and shot the man four times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So, since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week.

RE: Man Attempts to Murder Ex-Girlfriend

This is why it is reasonable to have armed police officers, (I'm not in support of it in the UK, it would cause far too many issues) the gun laws in the US are still Blue. There's a difference between a 'good person with a gun' and a police officer with a gun.

Oh and nice effort from the Police officer - she does deserve more recognition than she is getting I suppose.

I agree, but it just saddens me that media is just making everyone so much more scared of guns. I wouldn't have known any of this had I not came across this small post in the news...

Yeah, seems that anything that is close to being good news, even if it is a man being shot, is totally ignored most of the time. Why I never bother watching the news tbh.

Me neither. It really is a source of depression.

One of my close friends said he actually became so much happier when he recently stopped watching the news and only realized the reason just then.

No one ever focuses on the good things.

Probably because there was only one death with two wounded and its the ex-girlfriend. That kind of shootings, drive-by shootings, gang related shootings etc. happens almost everyday in Detroit. A lot more if you count all over the US. We only hear them on local news because national media can't cover every deaths like that all over the US.

If that guy had shot and killed couple more people in the restaurant or theater, it would definitely be all over the media.

But imo that deputy should be recognized more in some of the national news like CNN, Yahoo etc. She saved a lot of lives.

CNN are very liberal, and seemingly against guns. That's why.
I'd much rather read from a conservative source, or someone who plays the devils advocate.

US media is corrupt? Discovery of the year...

I don't think anyone against your current gun laws want officers not to be armed, so this story has no relevance to the mass-shooting. She done her job, well done. It's still pathetic that a man can walk into a populated public place with a gun anyway, that never ever happens in the UK and many other countries.

Exactly. dethbane being from the Bay Area I'd think she would be used to hearing about single death shootings. That is hella common in the US and there is no way the national media can cover all of those types of shootings

I don't watch the news, nor do I know anyone affiliated with such things. My friends are dorks and geeks, so I'm pretty ignorant about what goes on around here. I barely even get swag jokes.

Really, I was just kinda' bored last night and started posting things that I came across.

Should be news like any other hostile activity imo.

Good the man got stopped in time before he could hurt any more.

This. People used to know there was a reason you only heard about Jon Benet, or any of the little kids, and now why we only hear about The Joker Murder and Columbine. It happens more than national news should cover, and needs to show people being on the defense is better than saying "no one can be violent" and hoping it works.
