The owner of an Island Lake biker bar who responded to a Craigslist sex ad was allegedly gunned down by the prostitute’s pimp husband Saturday night, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s office.
Kurt Milliman, 48 — a former process server for the McHenry County Sheriff who in 2009 ran unsuccessfully for village president of Prairie Grove — died soon after he was found with gunshot wounds at the home of Timothy and Kimberly Smith in far northwest suburban Woodstock, police say.
Timothy Smith, 26, is charged with first degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, pandering and pimping. His wife, 28, faces two counts of obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and prostitution.
Sheriff’s officers responding to a call of an unwanted guest at the Smiths’ home in the 4300 block of Doty Road found Milliman shot inside shortly before 11 p.m., according to Undersheriff Andrew J. Zinke. Milliman later died at Centegra Woodstock Memorial Hospital.
An investigation alleged Milliman had solicited prostitution services from a Craigslist ad posted by the couple, according to the Sheriff’s office. He was shot after an argument with the couple, it’s alleged.
Friends gathered Sunday at Dirty Hog Saloon, the Island Lake biker bar Milliman owned, to mourn their pal.
“He looked out for all his friends and he was always the first one there when they needed something,†said Greg Smith, adding that Milliman often organized charity rides with other bikers. “He was a great guy,†Smith said.
Milliman had a girlfriend and was helping to raise her children, he added. “His family is devastated,†he said.
Records show Milliman ran for the McHenry County Board in 2008 and that he came within 33 votes of being elected Prairie Grove village president a year later.
Tim and Kim Smith are due in court Monday morning.
