WASHINGTON (AP) - Police say a 91-year-old German socialite slain inside her million-dollar Washington home died of strangulation and blunt-force trauma.
Charging documents issued Wednesday also say that her husband, Albrecht Muth, had scratches on his face that detectives believe are evidence of a struggle.
Muth has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Viola Drath, and he's due to appear before a judge Wednesday afternoon.
A police affidavit also says Muth's DNA found was found at the scene. It says Drath's signature was forged on a letter that Muth presented to Drath's relatives stating that Muth was entitled to $150,000 if Drath were to die.
