TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- Deputies said a man was arrested Wednesday evening after he tried to kill his live-in girlfriend.
At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, deputies from the Tehachapi Substation were sent to the 10500 block of Pretoria Road in Sand Canyon regarding a domestic violence call.
The 58-year-old woman said that her live-in boyfriend, William Stanley, 58, assaulted her on Sunday, hitting her about three times on her head and shoulders with pieces of a toilet bowl, deputies said. Deputies said she said Stanley threw her cellphone when she tried to call 911.
The woman said that on Tuesday, Stanley hit her on her legs and ribs several times with a stick, deputies said.
She reported that during both assaults Stanley made threats to kill her and said he would not allow her to leave the home, deputies said.
Deputies said she said she remained there and did not try to call for help out of fear for her life.
Stanley left the home before deputies arrived, and he could not be located, deputies said.
Deputies said the woman had a cut about 1 1/2 inches long on her head, a cut along her right knuckles, a cut on her right index finger and several bruises on her back, shoulders, arms and legs. She had a fractured shoulder and her right hand was swollen, deputies said. She was treated at Tehachapi Hospital.
At about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, deputies said they were contacted by the woman, who said Stanley had returned. The woman told deputies that she had returned home from the hospital and gone to bed. She said Stanley showed up at the home in the morning and began breaking windows and making more threats, deputies said.
Deputies searched the area, with help from Tehachapi police officers, with no success.
Based on information obtained from the woman and nearby homeowners, deputies said they found Stanley about a mile away near the intersection of Bonanza and Rodeo drives.
Stanley was arrested without resistance.
He was booked at the Kern County Jail on charges of attempted murder, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment.
His bail is set at $675,000.
