BRANFORD-Investigators on Thursday intercepted a package filled with 2,016 grams of liquid cocaine sent from Peru to a house on Montoya Circle, state police said.
The cocaine was shipped in 1,008 Pilot pens, each holding about 2 grams of the liquid, police said. Authorities intercepted the package as it was headed for delivery to 138 Montoya Circle.
Valentin Perez Rivera, 27, and Flore Soto, 49, two residents of the home, were arrested and charged with possession of narcotics and posession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Rivera and Soto, both illegal immigrants, accepted the package when it was delivered by investigators, police said.
Authorities also seized a 2004 Ford Expedition and $10,919 in cash from the pair. They were held with bail set at $2 million each and are scheduled to appear at New Haven Superior Court on Friday.
State police and the United States Department Of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division worked together to make the arrests.
