Is lil wayne the greatest rapper today? I think not. Personally i think him selling a million copies, is bs, and his label bought about half of those. Carter III is his best album, but how is lil wayne the best, when he's dropped so much average material? 2pac, Biggie, Jayz, DMX, Eminem, and all the legends drop classics, but what has wayne dropped???

Im only counting like one hit per album, two at the most. 6 albums over 9 years, with like 8 semi hits. His biggest songs weren't his own, he was just featured on the song.

So do you love/hate wayne and why. I think wayne is ok, but track for track lil wayne just isn't the greatest rapper out now. You can bring up the commercial sucess arguement too. You can bring up all the mixtapes. I guess im curious to see why lil wayne fans rate him so high.

As for the question, he is not the best rapper alive. When he drop his 2nd single call Bring it Back (Tha Carter II), He claimed that he was the best rapper alive and ever since than, people been jumping on the band wagon. That shows me that people don't have the sense about who's hot and who's not.

Lil Wayne has the most dickriders & is the most overrated rapper in history. He does have hot songs & he is on every song you can think of. I dont think he is the best rapper alive but I think is one of the top rappers who work the hardest at what he does.

Most of the rappers you guys like these days aren't much at all. They say simple punchlines, and you guys love it because its easy to understand ie "I'm flyer than an airplane" "I'm so high, I can see the clouds" etc. I think thats straight garbage, my little sister can come of with half of this shit...

Lyricism is a dying breed. Somewhere along the line, people gave up actually deciphering lyrics, and chose to go with these Souljaboy / Lil Wayne type of nursery ignorant lyrics, and now we have today's hip hop.

Lil' Wayne is pretty much killing rap single-handedly. The dude is crap, but for some reason he's treated like a GOD. Of course, the label had to buy records. People bought into the hype and bough the album the first week, obivouly, they didn't think much of the album and once word starte spreading that it wasn't that good, the sales started going down.

I don't blame the label for buying up records, but its still corny (And almost sad) as hell.

*Puts on some Eric B and Rakim*

Lil Wayne is a genius for hyping the shit out of his new CD, but I really don't see what the big deal is about him. His voice is really annoying and difficult to understand, which I'm not too much of a fan of. And if he's that great of a rapper, how come I've only seen one mainstream hit from him? He doesn't have the big "pop" hit that guys like Jay, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kanye, 50 and even TI have.

Lil Wayne is average. Not the best alive or ever. That's just stupid.

Either way though. True rap died years ago.

Pop in some 90's gangsta before listening to this shit.

OMG thank you.

And its not just rap that's suffering. Rock music et al. are all suffering from awful lyricism IMO.

Just give me some Public Enemy and some Neil Young.
