Lightweights John Makdessi and Alan Patrick meet at UFC 169 in February
A lightweight matchup between Canadian knockout artist John Makdessi (12-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and undefeated Brazilian prospect Alan Patrick (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will take place at UFC 169.
UFC officials today announced the new matchup for the event, which takes place on Feb. 1 at Prudential Center at Newark, N.J. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view while prelims are expected to air on FOX Sports 1.
An official bout order for UFC 169 has yet to be revealed.
Makdessi fights for the eighth time under the UFC banner. His future with the organization looked shaky in 2012 after losing back-to-back fights to Anthony Njokuani and Dennis Hallman. However, he’s since rebounded with three straight wins over Renee Forte, Daron Cruickshank and Sam Stout.
The 30-year-old “Nuguette†made his UFC debut in October, where he met fellow promotional newcomer Garett Whiteley. Patrick impressed in the contest, scoring a first-round TKO win and putting on a dynamic dancing celebration afterward.
Patrick remains undefeated through the first 11 fights of his professional career.
With the addition to the card, UFC 169 now includes:
Champ Dominick Cruz vs. interim champ Renan Barao – bantamweight title unification bout
Champ Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas – for featherweight title
Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem
Chris Cariaso vs. Kyoji Horiguchi
Nick Catone vs. Tom Watson
John Makdessi vs. Alan Patrick
