With the huge success of “The Fast & Furious†franchise, Legendary is now looking to get the pistons pumping on a property the whole world is accustomed to.

The company has tapped Simon Crane to direct and Paul Attanasio to pen a “Hot Wheels†feature based around the famous toy cars. Attanasio will rewrite from the draft written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway which originally attracted Crane to the project.

Legendary acquired the licensing rights from Mattel in 2011 and has been trying to get the film up and into production for some time.

No plot details are known, Legendary’s initial instinct was to market the film toward young men who were attracted to the “Fast & Furious†franchise — not the kids who would be playing with the toys.

Joe Roth, Palak Patel, and Sam Mercer of Roth Films will produce with Legendary. Alex Garcia is overseeing the project for Legendary.

The CAA-repped Crane has been waiting for the opportunity to helm his first feature having cut his teeth as a second unit director on pics such as “World War Z†and “Edge of Tomorrow.†Attanasio is also repped by CAA and most recently wrote the script to Universal’s “Scarface†reboot.

So lets base a movie that has car chases and a huge fan base and using vehicles that kids play with. Boy do I smell a stinker.

Not to mention you already have the Fast and Furious Franchise, and have a Need for Speed movie coming too...
