Last week we shared word that Laurence Fishburne might be playing a role in NBC's upcoming drama Hannibal. The official word is in and it looks like the Matrix star will indeed be boarding the project, joining Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy.
EW confirmed the news this week, stating that Laurence Fishburne is on board to join Bryan Fuller's NBC serial killer thriller Hannibal, which has been given a 13-episode order and is expected to arrive at NBC sometime during Midseason 2013. Fishburne will play FBI Behavioral Sciences Unit leader Jack Crawford, a role that was previously played by Dennis Farina, Scott Glenn and Harvey Keitel in the various feature adaptations of Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter-focused novels (The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon). Fishburne's character is the boss to FBI agent Will Graham, played by Hugh Dancy. He's described as "stern." Given what we've seen of Fishburne in the past, I have no doubt that he'll be able to pull that off.
Well known for his film roles, which includes The Matrix and Apocalypse Now - and will eventually include playing Perry White in the upcoming Man of Steel - Fishburne is no stranger to television eiither, having played the part of Dr. Raymond Langston in CSI for numerous seasons. He also had a recurring role as Cowboy Curtis on Pee-Wee's Playhouse back in the 80s. His part in Hannibal is categorized as a recurring role, so his appearances may be a bit scattered throughout the series, but it's certainly an exciting bit of casting for the project, which is already doing pretty well for itself in the talent department.
