Kyle Kingsbury vs. Patrick Cummins slated for UFC on FOX 12 in San Jose
A light heavyweight bout between Kyle Kingsbury (11-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) and Patrick Cummins (5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is the latest addition to next month’s UFC on FOX 12 event.
FOXSports.com first reported the bout.
UFC on FOX 12 takes place July 26 at SAP Center in San Jose. The main card card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Kingsbury recently said he opted against a short-lived retirement and planned to fight at the event, which takes place near his training home at American Kickboxing Academy.
Kingsbury’s career has been the tale of two halves. After suffering a loss to Tom Lawlor after both fighters appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter 8,†the 32-year-old won four consecutive bouts, topping the likes of Fabio Maldonado and Jared Hamman while picking up two “Fight of the Night†bonuses in the process. However, his deserved step up in competition produced some disappointing losses and put him on his current three-fight skid, which came to Stephan Bonnar (decision), Glover Teixeira (submission) and Jimi Manuwa (TKO).
In his his first fight since September 2012, he now meets Cummins, who recently picked up his first UFC win. After a short-notice booking with standout Daniel Cormier ended in a quick loss earlier this year, Cummins was demoted from a pay-per-view co-headliner to a UFC Fight Pass opener this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 42. However, he made the most of the opportunity and scored a TKO victory over Roger Narvaez for his fifth stoppage in five career wins.
The latest UFC on FOX 12 card now includes:
Matt Brown vs. Robbie Lawler
Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Michael Johnson vs. Josh Thomson
Daron Cruickshank vs. Jorge Masvidal
Dennis Bermudez vs. Clay Guida
Noad Lahat vs. Steven Siler
Patrick Cummins vs. Kyle Kingsbury
