Although it’s not always fair to speculate, those that have followed Kurt Angle’s odd behavior over the years may be correct in their concern for his long-term wellbeing. Whether it’s aggressive or incoherent Twitter rants, or delusions of an MMA or second Olympic career, the 1996 Gold Medalist has certainly shown sings since his WWE departure that he’s not quite functioning correctly.
In a recent interview with MLW Radio, wrestling star Konnan added more smoke to the fire, by recounting a frankly bizarre incident in Mexico.
In a previous interview Konnan had revealed that while he was in TNA, Angle had confided in him that Vince McMahon had tried to lure Kurt back to WWE by regularly sending him flowers! Kurt responded via Twitter vehemently denying the allegations, but fast forward to TripleMania last August, Konnan discussed a second run-in with the Olympian:
“Remember when we were talking about Kurt Angle? I was like, hey, cool dude. I even marked out when I heard he was coming to TNA, but give me a break about the flowers thing. People sending him tweets telling him ‘Konnan said you got flowers from Vince’ and he said I was delusional.
“Well he showed up in Mexico for a show, for Triplemania, about a month and a half ago and we hadn’t talked since [the flower controversy]. He came in and literally for like the first three hours he wouldn’t even speak a word to me. He wouldn’t even look at me when I was going over the match. Obviously I’m going to have to tell the guy that he did say [Vince sent him flowers]. Maybe he doesn’t remember it, but we have to squash it because I can’t work like this. And then — I don’t know what happened — but he just totally chilled out. Without me talking to him, all of a sudden he’s very serious, wouldn’t talk or look at me and then the next minute he was alright and like hugging me.”
It’s on the record that when Angle was released from WWE in 2006 there was concern for his health physically, and that he was going through pain pill issues. Knowing what we know about the condition of Chris Benoit‘s brain at the time of his death, it’s highly likely that Kurt also has some long-term damage from the various concussions he’s received over the years.
The hope is that the lighter TNA schedule has done him some good, but he’s still often working through injuries and has been involved in a string of DUI incidents, and a claim of stalking by his then girlfriend Rhaka Khan. Angle has denied fault in every single incident, but then Kurt even denies things he’s written on his own Twitter account.
Lets hope this is all blown out of proportion and that TNA are looking after their talent adequately.
This isn't a report, just a thought I read on a blog.
