Mexican wrestling legend Konnan is back home recovering from heart surgery, according to Dave Meltzer.
Meltzer said that Konnan (Charles Ashenoff) was hospitalized last Thursday after suffering what was described as a lot of pain in his chest. He had originally attributed the discomfort to fractured ribs he suffered during an FTR attack last June on AEW Dynamite.
The 58-year-old was hospitalized for six days and had the surgery before returning home.
Meltzer later confirmed a report about the need for surgery being related to a bout with COVID-19. However, it wasn't a new case of the virus but after effects from when Konnan had the virus in February 2021. In the same timeframe, he was hospitalized due to a serious kidney issue.
As of this writing, he hasn't gone public on social media with his situation but did respond to a fan on Twitter who asked if he was ok:
Retired from in-ring competition, Konnan has remained part of MLW, managing current Tag Team Champions 5150 and has been part of their last few TV tapings.
