Kofi Kingston provides injury update

Kofi Kingston is progressing well in his recovery from ankle surgery.

This March, Kingston underwent surgery after injuring his ankle on an episode of SmackDown. The injury happened during a spot where Drew McIntyre hit a flip dive over the top rope onto a pile of wrestlers.

Kingston addressed his recovery while being interviewed on the Battleground Podcast on Tuesday. Kingston said the surgery he had done was to remove a bone chip and fix a ligament. For the most part, he's been ahead of schedule in his recovery. Kingston said we'll hopefully see him back in the ring sooner than later.

I’m actually in Orlando right now doing some rehab on my ankle. I had ankle surgery to remove a bone chip and fix a ligament after the massive Scottish behemoth of a man, Drew McIntyre, landed on my leg and my body went east and my leg went west and my ankle was completely sprained, but they took out some bone chips and fixed the ligament and now I’m on the mend, you know? Somewhere in between a robot and a zombie. Somewhere in between. I’m working my way back into the fold, so it’s all good. Life is grand.
I’m doing really well. I actually had this same surgery on the same ankle about six years ago to have bone chips removed, so I feel like this time around, I kind of know what to expect and I’ve been kind of ahead of schedule for the most part. And I’m really able to do a lot of normal people things and live normal life. So now it’s just a matter of trying to like go to the next level and do WWE Superstar things, you know what I mean? In-ring things like that. So I’ve been in Orlando for the past week just kind of seeing where I’m at. And things are looking pretty good, so hopefully sooner than later, you’ll see me in the ring.

Kingston and his New Day tag team partner Xavier Woods were selected by Raw in the 2023 WWE Draft. Kingston and Woods are advertised for WWE's house show tour of Germany that's taking place this October.

Kingston was on the Battleground Podcast to promote that The New Day are hosting WWE Night for the USFL's Michigan Panthers this Sunday (June 18). Big E has been the Michigan Panthers' official emcee for all of their home games this season.

Them never breaking up is one of the most refreshing things in wrestling IMO.

Whoever turns will probably just get a short heel run before they join back up anyway tbh no one would be helped and two have been world champions without having to break up already so I think they're fine

Realistically they’ve accomplished everything they would want to solo anyway.

Woods winning the IC title at some point would probably be the icing on the cake but he already won KOTR, which was his real dream.

His career is stagnant right now and, although he enjoys teaming with Kofi, this special bond is holding him back ... A heel turn, a feud with Kofi and a solo career leading to winning at least the US title would be beneficial to Woods before he eventually retires (considering he is already 36 years old).

The man’s literally one of the most known full time current WWE wrestlers to casual people. Xavier’s a icon in the gaming community for hosting stuff, his YouTube channel & literally being a unlockable/DLC in multiple games. To say his career is stagnant just because he doesn’t have a midcard belt is insanity.

Your comment is ridiculous ... Hi accomplishments OUTSIDE wrestling do not change the fact that his WWE career is STAGNANT now ... Woods deserves more in WWE and IDGAF about videogames and YouTube.

He can still get those things without breaking up New Day….Kofi and Big E literally won the WWE Championship without doing it. I’m sure Woods can win the US or IC Title without having to break up.

Or, maybe, just maybe, Xavier already accomplished all he wanted in wrestling and is just enjoying the ride from now on. Why does it have to be that he has to break up with The New Day, who are his best friends in the whole world, and still one of WWE's best merchandise movers, to earn a singles title? Maybe he doesn't want one?

But nope, we gotta split him up with them because one guy thinks his career has stagnated.
