MMA Weekly - Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal was caught off guard when Emanuel Newton hit a spinning backfist to remove him from Bellator's Season 8 light heavyweight tournament.

"When I land a punch, I know it's over," said Lawal to MMA Weekly. "I'm looking where I'm throwing. I don't throw it to hope it lands. I'm throwing it to land and for it to land solid. I'm watching everything I throw. He had that spinning backfist and he got lucky with it. When we fight again, it will be a different story, trust me. I know it will."

It was in the semifinals when Newton connected with the shot in the opening round. He's since made it to the finals of the 2013 Summer Series. At Bellator 97, he takes on Jacob Noe on July 31.

Newton is expected to get his title shot during 2013.

Lawal is 10-2 and a former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion.

Alright, let's be fair.. he got caught, every fighter does eventually at some point in their career whether it's with a knockout blow or a submission. But he's honestly coming off as a big bitch talking like this! I don't understand why he can't accept what happened and just learn from it, you know.. maybe keep his hands up and not swing for the fences?

It's so easy to accidentally drop your guard for a brief second a get caught. So yeah, to bitch about it doesn't reflect well on him.

To be honest with you, boxing is one of my strong suits in MMA so I know all the importance of keeping your hands up. That's probably why BJ Penn's never been even knocked down. But the way Mo punches (similar to a lot of fighters) he loads up and leaves a lot of space to connect with a nice solid technical punch. I never load up on my cross and I always make sure I keep my elbows in, chin tucked, hands up, as well as maintaining the importance of my footwork so I'm not flat footed and all my training partners tell me I still have the ability to knock people out. Maybe he just needs to work with an olympic boxer like I did to get that part of his game down.
