Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal may currently be a part of the Bellator roster, but he's still keeping his eye on the light heavyweight division in other promotions and namely in the UFC.Speaking with FightHubTV recently, Lawal was asked how he feels he'd fare against UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The ever-confident fighter asserted himself to be the man to defeat the young dynamo -- and anyone else in the division, for good measure.
"I've been saying [that I'm the one to beat Jon Jones] for myself. I've been hearing it from the fans," said Lawal. "The thing is, I feel like I can beat anybody. Anybody in MMA I feel like I can beat 'em. And it's not just Jones, it's anybody."
If you know much about King Mo though, you know he's about much more than just confidence. He's an astute analyst of the sport with a great knowledge on MMA history as well as tactics. He's quick to give Jones respect for all that he's accomplished, but stops short at praising him as the best ever -- yet, anyway.
"He gets the credit he deserves. I wouldn't say he's the greatest ever just yet, because, you know, it's hard to label someone great," he said. "Ali was great because Ali was at a high level for years. Mayweather is great because he's been at a high level for years. … But Jon Jones is a great fighter and he could potentially end up being one of the greatest ever. To me it doesn't matter, I feel like no one's great until they beat me."
Lawal recently signed a landmark deal with both the Bellator MMA promotion and the TNA professional wrestling organization, but he'll need to recover fully from the life-threatening staph infection he faced earlier this year before he debuts for either.
