AEW's Kenny Omega revealed Thursday on his Twitch channel that he recently underwent "emergency treatment" as he provided fans with a health update.

Omega has been sidelined since December after suffering a bout of diverticulitis. In a Twitch stream with Alex Jebailey on Thursday, Omega said that his recovery has been "two steps forward... maybe one and a half steps back," noting that he recently underwent an emergency treatment. Omega said:

It's been really touch and go. And I was feeling great for I would say, like a week or two. So for two weeks I was doing great. Then I ran into a little bit of a roadblock and I had to get some emergency treatment again.
Omega said that he is still unsure of whether or not he will need surgery to treat the diverticulitis, and said that he can't provide a potential timeline for a comeback to the ring:

Because I understand how I feel physically, and I've been through the ringer in terms of injuries and getting banged up and all that, I kind of now know when I feel like I can come back. This is the first time I've ever been put out with a sickness. And it's hard to know what's going on on the inside when you feel a little bit of pain but you don't really understand the inner workings of what's going on.
So I'd love to say, 'Hey guys, I'm on track to coming back next week, next month, or in half a year. I don't have that confidence this time.
When they're explaining to me I was 24 hours away from getting a terrible blood infection and possibly dying, this is like news to me. I've never heard of anything like that. I thought it was like, just shrugging it off. I was close to dying? Like are you kidding me? No way.
The doctors are there to ensure my safety and kind of to educate me as to how important this stuff is.
So, I don't want to talk out of my ass too much and just say 'Yeah, for sure, I'm going to be back, I'll be back at a certain day or a certain time because I don't know.

Omega went on to say that while he doesn't have a timetable for a comeback, he does feel a responsibility to return to the ring:

But I will say one thing, that after watching Dynamite this past week, I'm kind of getting a feeling for the lay of the land. If I can come back, I feel like I have to. There are too many great... I may never get an environment like that again. I don't know if I would call that fun, more of a responsibility. I've got a responsibility to mix it up with these guys that call themselves the best, because I used to be that guy. I used to have that confidence. And now instead of being that guy with that chip on his shoulder, it's my job to be the old guard as that gatekeeper. You want to call yourself the best? F---ing prove it, bitch. That's what I'm here for, or that's what I will come back for.

Omega said that any comeback will have to be up to the high standards he has set for himself:

Whether it be on the pay per view or on Dynamite or on Raw or SmackDown or NXT or anybody, it makes me want to get back in that ring shape. So I'm doing this weird balance of trying to balance the sickness and the pain, but also train and make sure things don't get too out of hand. If suddenly I'm healed and I'm cleared, I want to be able to hop back in. The bar is so high, I don't want to come back and be below that bar if I can. I'm just gonna try the best I can.

The full two-hour-plus stream can be viewed here.

Returning to the ring is a minor concern.

It’s all about his health.

Even if it’s 2 steps forward, one and a half back, that’s still some progress. So take that as a win.

That is too bad to hear but I am happy that he seems to be thinking of his health most importantly because that IS what is most important.

Yeah the thought of Omega near death and understanding something is wrong and thus being saved imagine how many people don't take the signs of their health seriously and push it back till it's too late. When I first heard about Omega I went to the Doctor days later fearing my problem was very similar to his . I'm glad to say I'm eating more healthier than ever and of me getting off Soda especially I've lost over 20 pounds. Only my Mother and younger Brother Anthony has known about it and it just the other day my Dad noticing how slimmed down I look.

I'm really hoping Omega gets to where he wants to be health wise because I'm worrying about not just his physical health but his mental health during this. He seems to be working out and keeping busy but I wonder if he's seeing someone to talk to during this? I'm the type of dude that when work is not there and I'm home your mind starts to wonder and you can quickly get into a state of doubt, anxiety, stress, to the point where you make yourself sick really quickly. I had to learn to get through those moments and it wasn't easy when your brain and body wants something and you're stopping yourself from doing it. Omega is used to be Wrestling every day of his life and now he's in the middle of the Street waiting for the Red Light to turn Green so he can get back in the Ring. Prayers for Omega man

Observer update

While no decision has been made, it looks more likely than not that Kenny Omega will be getting surgery on his intestines. He’s had his ups and downs but has largely been dealing with a good amount of pain for months now. He said surgery is becoming more and more likely as two different doctors have told him they think it’s the best option. It’s not 100 percent that he will have surgery but it’s looking more likely, particularly if he wants to get into condition to resume his career that he will probably have to get rid of the perforated sections of his intestine and colon. There is an obvious plan if and when he returns to come back into a feud with Kazuchika Okada, and because of the legendary status of those matches, that becomes a situation where he’s going to want and need to get into top shape. We keep going back to Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Brock Lesnar, who both returned at a high level and both of their situations were very bad as well, but Omega’s situation was legitimately life threatening.

If he gets the surgery, I hope it goes well and he can heal fully. And I also hope once he'd return, he slows it down to a degree. Not as in completely change his style, but more be selective with his matches, at least early on while he gets back to top form.

This feels like Shibata took his brain out stuff. If kenny has perforations in his stomach n intestine he'd be septic n dead now. I think the Mets r likely not working as well as hoped n those perforation could happen sans surgery. Dave is probably misunderstanding a bit
