I remember a funny story about trademarking back when the now-WWE lost their WWF name to the panda fuckers. The panda people won the rights to the WWF initials but before they could put up their website as wwf.com, someone else looking to run a wrestling website swooped in and bought the rights to do so before they could.

Didn't WWE drop the rights to the name ECW sometime in 2012 and some dude in New York bought them intending to start up a wrestling promotion?

Was it just the initials or was it Extreme Championship Wrestling? I'm assuming they were both trademarked.
