Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky added to UFC 176 in August
A flyweight matchup between Jussier Formiga (16-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Zach Makovsky (18-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is the latest addition to the UFC 176 lineup.
The new contest was first reported by Philly.com and later confirmed by UFC officials.
Featuring a featherweight title fight rematch between current champ Jose Aldo and top challenger Chad Mendes, UFC 176 takes place Aug. 2 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims that air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.
Formiga is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings, while Makovsky sits at No. 11. The placement of the Formiga vs. Makovsky matchup on the evening’s lineup wasn’t immediately revealed.
Formiga fought most recently in March, where he earned a first-round submission win over Scott Jorgensen. After the fight, Jorgensen pointed to an inadvertent head butt as the reason he was wobbled and unable to defend, but an appeal of the result was denied.
Meanwhile, Makovsky made his UFC debut just five months ago but has already picked up a pair of wins. In his promotion debut, “Fun Size†scored a decision win over Jorgensen. He returned to action in February, when he earned a decision over Josh Sampo.
