Thompson hurt himself within the past week, and tests revealed damage that left him unable to complete his training camp and compete. A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the worst-case scenario for a fighter who has had several injury problems in the past.
Thomson was coming off a loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri in Dream last New Years Eve, but was 8-1 in his last nine Strikeforce fights. His only loss was to current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, a man he had defeated in the past. Blanco is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, with the last five fights taking place in the defunct Sengoku promotion. No replacement for Thomson has been named as of yet.
