The injury bug strikes again and this time it costs UFC 151 its co-main event.

Josh Koscheck has been forced out of his scheduled bout against Jake Ellenberger on the Sept 1 card due to a bulging disc in his back.

The fight between Koscheck and Ellenberger was scheduled as the co-main event on the card headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson.

Unfortunately now UFC officials are left to find a replacement to try to step in and face Ellenberger on just three weeks notice for the upcoming card in Las Vegas.

The timeline for Koscheck’s return to action has not been determined at this time.

The injury was reported on Fuel TV via UFC Tonight on Tuesday evening

This sucks, i was actually looking forward to this fight. No word yet on who they're going to bring in to replace him. I know Dan Hardy wants to fight in his hometown and what not, but this could be a huge opportunity for him if they want to go in that direction.

Maybe the fight is intriguing enough for BJ Penn to take, they could also bring in Mike Swick i know he just fought last weekend, but he said he wants to fight as soon as possible and he looked pretty damn good in his fight on Fox. That Siyar Bahadurzhada guy who KO'd Paulo Thiago awhile ago on a Fuel show is a possibility as well.

Great news for me, didn't like the fight at all and IMO Kos is finished as an elite fighter.

Agreed that Kos is done, and is nothing more than a Gatekeeper at this point in his career. I still wanted to see this fight though.

Seven years after his most recent trip to the octagon, Jay Hieron (23-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) is returning to the UFC.

Multiples sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) that Hieron has agreed to replace injured Josh Koscheck (17-6 MMA, 15-6 UFC) and now will meet fellow welterweight Jake Ellenberger (27-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at UFC 151.

Signed bout agreements and a formal announcement are expected shortly.

UFC 151 takes place Sept. 1 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs live on pay-per-view while FX and Facebook host preliminary-card fights.

On Tuesday, UFC officials announced Koscheck's withdrawal from the co-main-event fight due to injury.

I haven't watched much of Hieron, seen a few of his fights when he was in Strikeforce. He's 0-2 in the UFC but 16-3 since leaving the company. I've still got my money on Ellenberger.

He also looked pretty impressive in Bellator, almost wining the WW championship. I guess this is also the second time these two have fought, fought once out of the UFC back in '06
