Josh Alexander says signing with AEW was an option when he was a free agent earlier this year but he ultimately felt that staying with Impact Wrestling was the right move for him.

Alexander noted on February 14, 2022, that his contract with Impact Wrestling had expired and he was currently a free agent. He ended up returning to the promotion a few weeks later and announcing he had re-signed with the promotion.

Alexander spoke to Chris Van Vliet recently and noted that signing with AEW was "on the table" during his free agency.

“It was definitely on the table and it was definitely a thought and all this other stuff. But I wouldn't say it was too close because with all the stuff that had been happening and IMPACT I really felt like [I should stay]. And like also happening in AEW, with me watching every week, I still watch everything to this day. But I just like for me as a pro-wrestler, my fulfilment of what I do is to go out there and wrestle and show what I can do. I think my benefit is bell to bell, that is where I will gain notoriety, that is where I will show my worth in the pro-wrestling scene. And at the time watching AEW, it didn't look like a lot of people were getting opportunities to do that stuff outside of like the top 20 people that were on the roster. You'd see people shuffle in and out and shuffle in and out it out there. They get their runs for a few weeks, and they go back to shorter matches on AEW Dark and it was just IMPACT has been so good to me."

"[Impact] were the first company that gave me an opportunity and got me that visa, did this stuff and like it's all been roses since I got there man, I won the tag belts three months after I signed and got there. And I had the longest running tag team championship run, you know, and then as soon as Ethan left, everything's like going through your mind. And I was stressing out being like man, I hope I don't sit on the bench and just have to watch the shows until they figure out what they're gonna do with me. And immediately, I got an opportunity in the X-Division. And you know, that happened and was awesome and all this other stuff. It was just opportunity after opportunity."

"I think all you can ask for as a wrestler is for an opportunity to show what you can do. Give me the ball and if I drop it, that's fine. But you know, they've given me the ball a ton of times, and I don't think I've dropped it yet. So, I'm just gonna ride this out and see how it goes.”

Alexander defeated Christian Cage to win the Impact World title for the first time at Bound for Glory 2021. Moments later, Moose would cash in his title shot opportunity and take the title away from him, however. Alexander then won the title back by defeating Moose at Rebellion on April 23, 2022. His 229 days spent with the belt ranks him seventh all-time in the title's lineage.

Not surprising regarding the OP, and honestly, I think he made the right decision for his career. He will get offers again for more money next time

Man’s about to break the TNA impact world heavyweight championship longest reign record so it was absolutely the right call for him. I can’t even imagine where he’d be in the AEW pecking order now, probably just in the firm.

Also the way Josh was treated right after Ethan left probably went a long way for loyalty, they legit started making him a top singles star instantly even if i didn't necessarily see the vision at that point myself

Smart decision and best for his career.

I think he’d be lost in the shuffle wherever he went.

Let him run impact for another 2 years or so and see what the landscape is then.

I feel the same with Moose too, I think staying with Impact over WWE or AEW was his best move too even though a lot of people wanted him to sign elsewhere

I think guys like Omega would have demanded a push but remains to be seen. at best TNT champ which is still less good then what hes doing in Impact. only thing against him is both companies are stacked but his tock is high a.f so idont think he will have problems getting offers when he is a free agent. who doesnt want that guy on their roster

I can even see Moose signing with Impact again too unless he gets offered stupid money. he's very well treated there

Moose should absolutely stay in impact. They made him a megastar in their organization. Both as a monster and as a Champion. I can’t see him getting that kind of push or recognition anywhere else and I honestly think despite lacking on the mic skills is a guy that’s earned keeping that spot and I hate to see him go somewhere to do absolutely nothing.

yeah not to type cast but they've got lashley and brock as their big monsters so Moose would be small I think in comparison. then theres Omos too. I think he really is at his most effective as a big fish in a smaller pond. he should do some damn japan matches tho or some indie dates

I’m one of those people that thought Moose should’ve left, but I can’t disagree with you.

He's probably one of the best examples of succeeding as a big fish in a small pond where I don't believe he'd fit it at all on a bigger pond. Like he might could be fun in the old NXT but I just can't see a main roster run at all

Good to see wrestlers developing their careers rather than going straight for the big money, sticking around has gone great for them whereas for others not so much
