Ultimate Fighting Championship Featherweight fighters haven't had much success inflicting damage upon the division's champion, Jose Aldo.
Fortunately for the herd of 145-pounders, "Scarface" put himself on the shelf, injuring his left leg in what apparently was the result of kicking Chad Mendes during their title fight at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Jan. 14, 2012.
Aldo was set to take on Erik Koch at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 21, 2012, before it was announced that the fight would be derailed (along with many other recent major UFC bouts) because of the aforementioned leg injury to "Junior."
But, it's not all "doom and gloom" because Aldo's camp has announced some reasonably positive news in regard to when the Featherweight phenom may make his triumphant return to the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).
"UFC Tonight" had the report:
"According to Jose Aldo's manager and trainer, Andre Pederneiras of Nova Uniao, they're expecting him to be back in October. No surgery needed for that left leg, just some physical therapy, and they're very hopeful he'll be back in October. His opponent, whenever he is ready, will be Erik Koch."
So, for now, it appears as though Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch is still in the works, it's just a matter of when and where.
In the meantime, the rest of the division -- namely "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung -- will just have to bide their time until the next title shot becomes available.
With all of these injured guys returning towards the last part of 2012, they should just take them all and put them onto one super card. Make it up to us for feeding us shit cards like UFC 147 and 149.
