Strikeforce lightweight Jorge Gurgel (left) talks with ProMMAnow.com's Brian Furby about his win over Billy Vaughan at "Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson" on March 5, 2011, in Columbus, Ohio.

On March 5, 2011, BJJ black belt Jorge Gurgel (14-7) scored his first submission victory since 2005. Gurgel has taken quite a bit of criticism in recent years for choosing to stand and trade with his opponents instead of going to where his best strength lies, on the ground.

It took Gurgel only 44-seconds to lock on a guillotine choke and submit Ohio lightweight Billy Vaughan at “Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson“, but instead of being elated, Gurgel actually seemed a bit let down that it ended so quickly.

Gurgel talked to ProMMAnow.com‘s Brian Furby immediately after the fight and shared his thoughts on his victory and revealed just how little grappling he actually trained coming into the bout. He admits most of his focus had been on striking, but his BJJ instinct took over.

Gurgel also talks about his lovely wife, Bellator women’s 115-pound champion Zoila Frausto Gurgel, and some of the training challenges they face with both of them being professional fighters and preparing for fights at the same time.
