UFC welterweight title contender, Johny Hendricks has revealed he’s disappointed at not being handed a shot at the title next time out inside the octagon, but rather than get depressed about the situation the man with one of the greatest beards in MMA would rather look on the bright side of things.
Speaking via MMAFighting.com, Hendricks said:
“It is what it is. I feel like I fought the best guys at 170 in our division and I’ve won, but it looks like I have to get through one more person, and that’s just the way it goes. You can either sit here and complain about it or you can sit there and do your best to win it. Of course you’re disappointed. You get promised a title shot and then something happens and it doesn’t happen. But then again, that’s the nature of this business. There’s always good fights going on, you just have to win each one.”
“I’m training for a five-round fight because if one of them gets hurt, I got to take my opportunity when I can. I’m always excited for a fight. If you don’t go into a fight excited, you’ll lose. He’s had some good fights. He’s lost rounds but ends up winning. That’s who Martin Kampmann is. You have to go in there and finish him. My next goal is to do that.”
Hendricks has been on a tear at 170 pounds, emerging as a real force to be reckoned with following a string of big wins. Back-to-back victories over American Kickboxing Academy fighters, Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck have lead many people to believe he could be a future champion. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
Both he and Kampmann have been on a wreck with some pretty big wins for both of em, looking forward to their fight at UFC 154. Going with Kampmann for the win though.
