Following his match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, John Cena posted a message thanking WWE fans for allowing him to return and perform this summer.
Cena sent out a tweet on Monday morning thanking the fans, WWE staff, and his fellow wrestlers. Cena wrote that the journey takes him away from WWE for now, but he'll be seeing them soon.
"Words cannot describe how appreciative I am that the @WWEUniverse allowed me the opportunity to return and perform," Cena wrote. "Thank you staff, superstars, and most of all FANS for giving me an unforgettable summer at 'home' with my 'family'. The journey takes me away now but I’ll C U soon."
Cena has been announced for the Friday, September 10 episode of SmackDown at Madison Square Garden. Whether he'll be appearing on television or just for the live crowd remains to be seen.
Reigns defeated Cena to retain the Universal Championship in the main event of SummerSlam on Saturday night. The returning Brock Lesnar then came out to the ring to confront Reigns. After the pay-per-view went off the air, Lesnar laid out Cena.
Cena also made an appearance on "Good Morning America" on Monday morning to promote his movie "Vacation Friends" that premieres on Hulu this Friday. When asked if he'll ever retire from pro wrestling, Cena said he'll try to do the best he can until he feels like he's offending the consumer. Cena said he still feels good and still feels like he has something to contribute.
