Before returning to WWE this fall, John Cena received permission from the Screen Actors Guild.

Cena has been able to make an extended return to WWE this fall due to Hollywood being on strike. He came back to WWE in September and has been a full-time performer on television since then.

During an appearance on the latest episode of WWE After the Bell, Cena was asked how his return to WWE came to be. Cena called it a happening that's beyond his control. Cena said that, before returning to WWE, he called the proper people at SAG and got written and legal permission to do so.

Well, that’s certainly a happening that’s beyond my control. So, I’m fortunate enough to have a lot of things on the movie and television side lined up -- none of which I can talk about because we’re in the middle of a labor dispute. Then the labor dispute happens and the Screen Actors Guild decides as an entirety to go on strike, which either leaves me idle or asking questions of, 'Well, what can I do? What is within my control?' And I wanted to see if it was okay to come back to tour. So we called the proper people at SAG, we got written, legal okay that it would be okay to come back to WWE. And once I had that, then I could ask the question of, ‘Hey, WWE, do you guys want me to come back and hang out for a little bit?’ So -- here we are.

Cena said he's grateful to have a home in WWE and is grateful to the Screen Actors Guild for allowing him to be part of it.

The Hollywood strike began this May with the Writers Guild of America going on strike. The SAG-AFTRA strike then started in July. The writers strike ended in September but the actors strike remains ongoing

Cena noted that he hopes they can find a resolve to the strike soon that everybody is happy with.

At Crown Jewel this Saturday, Cena will be in action in a singles match against Solo Sikoa. Cena also wrestled at last month's Fastlane premium live event. He teamed with LA Knight in a victory over Sikoa & Jimmy Uso.

Cena said at the post-Fastlane press conference that, when the strike ends, he'll be called away from WWE. Cena said he can't try and do both at the same time because of liability insurance reasons. Cena said it would be "incredibly selfish" of him to put a lot of people in the movie business out of work if he got injured while wrestling.

Cena hasn't been announced for any WWE dates after Crown Jewel.

Also during the strike, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made a surprise appearance on SmackDown this September.

Didnt they say he'd only be around for like the first 10 weeks or whatever? Maybe he'll be around afterwards.

I guess it’s all dependent on the strike and where they’re at with that. I’m not gonna complain if he’s around longer

I think the last we heard about the strike was that the studios were gonna give up on the deal until January (literally benefitting nobody but big companies are big assholes etc etc) so we could be getting Cena until atleast Royal Rumble.

Not sure where you read that. But I'd say if a deal isn't reached by thanksgiving one shouldn't be expected until the new year.

SAG had no way of telling Cena he legally couldn't They exist outside the pervue. But I bet they didn't encourage it. I mean AEW WWE etc should get Stephen Amell David Arquette etc on the horn saying hey want to come do a spot?

Both Cena and The Rock have done it so how can you deny the rest from doing it?

The latest on the strike is that they’re talking everyday but if an agreement isn’t reached shortly then it probably wont happen until next year. So it’ll either be very soon or still months away.

As for Cena, I’ll never be thrilled that he has to keep asking Hollywood permission to be in WWE but of course I’m glad he was back these few months. It’s been fun.
