Joe Warren slated for title fight at Bellator 118 on May 2
Joe Warren has a date and headlining spot for his upcoming Bellator MMA title shot, officials today announced.
The former champ headlines Bellator 118 on May 2, when the organization heads to Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. The night’s main card, including Warren’s title fight, airs on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com.
Warren (10-3 MMA, 9-2 BMMA), who recently won a four-man tournament to claim the title shot, will meet either reigning bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas (15-3 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) or Rafael “Morcego†Silva (21-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), whose title fight is part of Bellator 111 on March 7.
“I know what it’s like to have the belt wrapped around my waist, and I’m getting it back on May 2,†Warren stated. “I’ve only been in MMA for about five years, and I feel like I’m just hitting my groove now. I feel great, I feel explosive, I love Bellator, and I want that belt.â€
Warren, a former featherweight titleholder, suffered a knockout loss to Alexis Villa while in a Season 5 bantamweight tournament, and then he lost his 145-pound championship (also via knockout) to Pat Curran in his following bout.
However, the world champion Greco-Roman wrestler and former “Fight Master†coach has since won three straight fights, including a pair of stoppage wins over Nick Kirk and Travis Marx in a Season 9 tournament.
