Joe Ellenberger debuts vs. Yancy Medeiros at UFC 172 in Baltimore
It’ll be a family affair in April in Baltimore for the Ellenberger brothers.
With his brother Jake already set for the card against Tarec Saffiedine, Joe Ellenberger (14-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will make his UFC debut at UFC 172 against Yancy Medeiros (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC). UFC officials announced the new lightweight bout on Monday afternoon.
UFC 172 takes place April 26 at Baltimore Arena in Baltimore and will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and top contender Glover Teixeira.
The 28-year-old Ellenberger has fought for promotions like Titan FC and Victory FC. He has 12 of his 14 career wins by stoppage. In his most recent fight, more than a year ago, he knocked out former Strikeforce fighter Joe Wilk.
Medeiros made his UFC debut in April 2013 after a 2-0 Strikeforce run in 2010. But he was stopped by Rustam Khabilov in the first round thanks to a dislocated thumb. That fight was his first at lightweight after competing at middleweight for the first nine fights of his career. In November, though, he rebounded from his first career loss by stopping Yves Edwards at UFC Fight Night 31.
The UFC 172 card now includes:
Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira – for light heavyweight title
Jake Ellenberger vs. Tarec Saffiedine
Joe Ellenberger vs. Yancy Medeiros
