The only thing I can say is... WTF?
Most people remember him how he used to be. A good actor, a normal looking dude, etc, and now he's like a hermit. And a rap career? WTF!!!

Anyways, do you think this is real, and he's fucked up, or a publicity stunt?

If it's real, well, I hope he's alright. If it's fake, and just for laughs, well, props to him, for going outside of the box for fun.

He's always been a quirky sort, but Letterman needs the kudos here - he kept that interview together so well. Ragging on whatever Phoenix was playing up: A+.

Joaquin is fucking around here. But who cares? I laughed, the audience loved it and Letterman got a kick out of it. Decent publicity. Win-win.

This current Phoenix gimmick is not out of the ordinary, it seems.

^^^How do you not see the different between the Letterman Phenix, and that Phenix you posted the vid of. If I see it properly, he spoke and laughed in the latter video... He was playing around with cast/crew on the set of the movie.

There's a difference between being 'whacky and fun' and being 'whack and shut off to the entire world, as if you're on some fucking top shit drugs'. Personally, I hope this is all a big gag/joke/publicity stunt for any reason. I'd hate to see anyone turn like that, in real life.

Well, I saw some shit where his publicist or somethign said they are legitimately worries about him, and apparently at his Red Carpet thing yesterday he wouldnt talk to anyone.
I think this is real.
The only way it could be fake is if it was to promote a movie, and he's just acting as the charcter, to promote it.
But that's not the case.
He is actually done with movies (he confirmed it in October, before all this), and is actually doing a rap career (his friend confirmed he has a studio in his home).
So if he isn't promoting anything with it, I actually think it's real.

I applaud him for pursuing his dreams but I would like to ask him if it was weird when he changed his name from Cat Stevens to Yusef Islam. Seriously he looks like Robin Williams knuckles.

Letterman was kind of being a prick. He would fuck with him and then play it off by saying "Oh, you're so amazing in this movie."
He was however on a TALK show and was acting more eccentric than ever. I heard rumors that he had a film crew with him and they were filming for an upcoming project he's doing...but it's supposed to be a complete secret.

No matter how you cut it this guy is fucking weird.
