J.J. Abrams will direct the next "Star Wars" film for Disney, taking stewardship of one of Hollywood's most iconic and lucrative film franchises, an individual with knowledge of the production told TheWrap.

"Argo" director Ben Affleck was also in contention, another individual with knowledge of the talks told TheWrap.

The man who made the new Star Trek, Lost, Cloverfield, Mission Impossible 3, Super 8 and Alcatraz. I am pretty stoked. Abrams is a talented director who has a good track record with picking up franchises.

He's directing star trek and star wars. Doesn't seem right to me. I think he should stay far far away from Star Wars, unless they have ONE HELL of a script. They are a trilogy away from ruining the entire franchise for the newer generations.
